Now that I've had time to think about it, it's probably a good thing we don't call the season Vern rather than Spring ...

"Man, what a nasty Vern!"
"Remember how hot last Vern was?"
"When's the last time we have a decent Vern?" (Don't think too hard about this one...)
"I've had enough of this Vern to last a lifetime!"

And ... "Vern ahead, Fall back" just plain doesn't work.
